Latin American Graffiti

Nowadays graffiti is considered a form of communication, by which are issued messages trying to persuade others. This is a type of writing that appropriates spaces not designed for that purpose, such as streets, walls and public baths. For being part of every culture, graffiti can be perceived differently from one city to another.

  • Colombia: The presence of graffiti has increased significantly over the last 10 years. Despite being one of the most stable Latin American cities, Bogotá is very insecure because of these expressions, which capture the inequality, violence and intolerance of some citizens who are victims.
  • Argentina: Buenos Aires is full of free spaces for inspired artists who want to express their style. It is gratifying for them to know that this form of communication is not considered vandalism and your only limit is imagination. People consider that graffiti show the incredible talent of the artists and give life to the city.

  • Honduras: Tegucigalpa's city is synonim of violence. Usually, the artists put on a mask to hide his identity, which means that the realization of graffiti is a crime. The walls are also used to promote slogans.
  • Brazil: Although graffiti is illegal in Brazil, the country has earned an international reputation as a place to go to appreciate the artistic inspiration of its exponents, who reflected mainly politicians and corruption issues.

Bangkok's 'Mexican' Gangsters

The tendency to look like Mexican gangsters has influenced the lives of a group of Thais who appreciate tattoos, the way of dress and hairstyles of the members of the real Latin bands. The fact of not implement the ideology that is generally associated with these illegal groups, shows that for them this lifestyle is just a fad, because they only are inspired by the aesthetic part, ie, the superficial and not in the violent acts that are the essence of these groups.

This subculture is formed by ordinary people who have adopted this style as an important part of their lives. They claim to have formed a brotherhood to share the style they love. For them it is a hobby that distracts them and gets them out of the monotony in daily living.

Afro-Colombians!

It is outrageous to think that in the XXI century, minorities in our country are still facing discrimination of a few. Undoubtly, this is a conflict that affects the morale of all citizens and the main cause is the lack of education, which creates a set of stereotypes and prejudices that divide the population into subgroups. There are countless problems caused by intolerance and stigmatization, which are reflected from the scorn and insults, even beatings and killings.

The achievement of a more equitable country will be possible, when we understand that the members of a society with principles do not face discrimination.
